What Is a Home Loan EMI Calculator?
A Home Loan EMI Calculator is a financial planning tool that helps you estimate the Equated Monthly Instalment you may need to pay toward a home loan. By entering the loan amount, interest rate and loan tenure, you can understand your potential monthly repayment before evaluating a home loan.
The calculator can also show estimated total interest and total repayment. This makes it easier to compare different loan scenarios and understand how the loan tenure or interest rate can affect your overall borrowing cost.
How Is Home Loan EMI Calculated?
Home loan EMI is generally calculated using the reducing-balance method. The calculation considers the principal amount, monthly interest rate and total number of monthly instalments.
EMI = P × R × (1 + R)ⁿ ÷ [(1 + R)ⁿ − 1]
Here, P represents the principal loan amount, R represents the monthly interest rate and n represents the total number of monthly instalments.
Why Does Loan Tenure Matter?
A longer loan tenure can generally reduce the monthly EMI because the repayment is distributed over a larger number of instalments. However, extending the tenure can also increase the total interest paid over the life of the loan.
Use the calculator above to compare different combinations of loan amount, interest rate and tenure before deciding what repayment level fits your financial plan.
