Check Your Refund Status
Waiting for an income tax refund? Understand where your refund stands, how to check its status online, what different refund outcomes mean and what to review when a refund is delayed or fails.
What does refund status tell you?
Income tax refund status helps you understand what has happened to a refund claimed in your Income Tax Return after the return has moved through the processing system.
The Income Tax Department's refund guidance explains that refund processing starts after the return is e-verified. Taxpayers can then use the e-Filing portal to view filed-return information and the available refund lifecycle.
The status should be read together with any intimation, communication or action required in your e-Filing account rather than treating every status as simply "refund received" or "refund pending".
Your filed return
The refund position is connected to the return filed for a particular Assessment Year and the tax information considered during processing.

What your refund status can mean
The Income Tax Department's refund-status guidance lists different refund outcomes, including issued, partially adjusted, fully adjusted and failed refund situations.
Read official refund manual →Refund issued
The refund has been issued according to the processing outcome shown for the return.
Refund partially adjusted
Part of the refund amount may have been adjusted against an applicable outstanding demand or other processing outcome.
Refund fully adjusted
The refund can show as fully adjusted where the relevant amount has been adjusted rather than credited as a refund.
Refund failed
A refund can fail because of issues such as bank validation, account details, name mismatch, invalid IFSC or a closed account.
Review these details before assuming something is wrong.
If your refund has not been credited, first review the status shown on the e-Filing portal and check whether any discrepancy, communication or bank-related issue requires action.
